August 2018 Happenings || School + I Got Social Media???
August 26, 2018Well. I think this month can be summed up by the Lord of the Rings characters that were featured in three consecutive calendars for the month of August.
Azog. Sauron. Gollum.
Yep. August is the dreaded month. It’s the month . . . of SCHOOL.
School has been . . . interesting. I found a GIF below that accurately summed up what happened the first week of school:
"I feel . . . thin. Sort of stretched. Like butter spread over too much bread." (Incorrect quote) |
Honestly, though, I like school. I really do. (Can you tell I’m a Ravenclaw?) But I definitely wasn’t prepared for the amount of HOMEWORK I would receive. And math, of course, has become the bane of my existence yet again.
But let’s not dwell on the negatives of this month! I met up with friends I hadn’t seen all summer, our parish had their annual picnic, and, best of all, my cousin had her bridal shower yesterday! I saw cousins there that I hadn’t seen in months, maybe even years, and it’s amazing.
It’s so weird to think that summer is over again. Another three months of sun, swimming, and seclusion (
But we will survive.
Now, for the cheerier part of the month! Except . . . I didn’t read much. The notable reads that I did devour were:
The Silver Eye. Guys. This is so good. It's a webcomic (click HERE to read it) by Laura Hollingsworth, and it has book violence and rocks and frenemies and mysterious magic and it is amazing. Read it. Seriously.
The Hobbit. This was a reread, but I enjoyed it just as much as I have every other time I read it. But Kili....... <3
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. For the first time ever . . . I read the last book of the Harry Potter series and so cemented the end. I cried buckets for the last 200 pages. Too many feelings, guys.
As I get more adjusted to my school schedule, hopefully I’ll read more, but I also have an announcement. (And yes, this has to do with my clickbait.)
This week, I got Goodreads.
I’d been debating it for a while, ever since Lisa posted about the benefits of the site, but I finally got permission to get it right before school began. You can find me HERE. (Shameless self-promotion, right here. XD)
I’m hoping that it will help me keep better track of my out-of-control TBR pile. (Or maybe it will make my TBR even more out of control. Bookworm problems, guys.)
In terms of the writing world, I honestly did my best to keep up with the 100-4-100 challenge. I had to take more “grace days,” though, because school began to consume all my time. (I’m seeing a pattern here....)
I began edits of my current WIP, which, I realized:
The idea for it was sprouted a year ago this August.
Really, I can’t believe I’ve had this idea for so long. I plan on sharing some things about it with you (soon!), but for now, I’ll just say that it’s been an awesome journey. *sniff* They grow up so fast.
Now, for my writing/life goals:
Goals? What goals? Who said I set goals?
*guilty face*
Okay, I’ll just say it: I accomplished all of two goals this month. No, I’m not referencing them. I’m not going to set goals again this month, just because of (guess) school.
Here are the mini writings (aka posts) I shared this month:
Elsewhere in the blogging world . . .
Gray, Julian, and Ivie all did an accidental-collab on blogging, which was pretty awesome to watch unfold.
Danielle talked about creativity, joy, and inspiration in a recent post for which I have no words.
And the REALM MAKERS posts were awesomely overwhelming. These include the posts by Tracey, Audrey, Christine, and Savannah. I’m so sorry if I forgot anyone! They really make you feel like you were there with them. <3
Well, that was my August! I wish you all the luck in the world with school, and see you around!

Haha, Julian, Gray, and I did do an accidental collab, didn't we? XD XD Great minds think alike. It's just so funny we published those on the same day. It's freaky, but cool. XD XD
ReplyDeleteThanks for the mention, girl! <3
I hope you have an epic school year and a great September. <3
That was great. XD It was a little freaky, though!
DeleteThanks, Ivie! Hope you have a great September too! And anytime!
Sounds like you had a pretty fun August! (Until, you know, school.)
ReplyDeleteMy August was fairly fun--by far my most productive month (and even then, I didn't get very much done, because #summer). I'm going aiming on posting an August recap at some point this week.
And my school starts tomorrow. *cries eternally*
HEEYY YOU'RE BACK!!! *confetti gun explodes*
DeleteCan’t wait for that post! And good luck with school! *joins the eternal crying*
Accidental-collabs are the best! :D
ReplyDeleteMy school starts tomorrow, so I feel you on already feeling stretched, although I am excited about my classes just not the tests and all of the work! :P
They are, aren’t they? :)
DeleteOh boy, good luck! I agree: I like school, but homework and tests are just awful. Have a good September!
I do have Goodreads! (I think we’re friends now?) my TBR is massive, so...I’ll make no reassurance as to its shrinkage. XD
ReplyDeleteSchool started a week ago for me. Most of my college credit courses start this week, though—tomorrow—so I’ll have an overload of homework for History and Precal soon :P hopefully I’ll be able to balance that with the job....
Great post! Good luck with school <3
Yes, I think we’re friends on Goodreads. And oh, boy, good to know! XD (that will probably happen to me as well....)
DeleteSame here! Good luck on your college courses! Precal doesn’t sound fun at all - we offer something similar at our school, and it sounds really hard.
Good luck with school! You can make it through. See you next month!
Such a great fun to read. seems like you had so much fun this 2018 and for sure you are excited for school. And cute spiderman GIF by the way.
ReplyDeleteThank you! Hopefully school goes well. Have a great September!
DeleteAw, I'm so glad you enjoyed my Realm Makers re-cap, Nicole, thank you for linking to it! I hope you're able to make it to that conference one of these days <3 <3 <3
ReplyDeleteYup, anytime! That really was a great post, though....And yeah, hopefully I’ll be able to go to RM next year and then PHOTO DUMP EVERYONE!
DeleteThanks for reading, Savannah!
