April 2019 Happenings
April 28, 2019Happy Sunday!
(Man, it’s been a while since I’ve been able to say that.)
Well, it took all month, but it’s finally warming up where I live. I’ve been wearing shorts and t-shirts for the first time since 2019 began.
And let’s hope that May's weather is perfect.
Life has been crazy this April, honestly. School has decided to pack quite a wallop. It seems that every class I’m taking has assigned a long research paper due in the next two weeks. (So if I disappear off the face of the blogosphere, you know why.)
And then allergies and a cold hit me like a truck, and I was down for about a week and a half. (Okay, it wasn’t that bad, but still - I have rough allergies.)
Easter weekend was pretty great! We visited with grandparents and got lots of chocolate. I’m trying to ration it, but . . . not much luck. XD
Honestly, Easter’s my favorite time of the year. Let me tell you, it feels great to be able to sing "Alleluia!" in Church again. :) (But, you know, also because of the chocolate.)
I also saw my friend that I haven’t seen in months, and we both threw a surprise birthday party for my other friend. It was pretty great. :)
Big Hero 6. I began listening to the soundtrack before I rewatched the movie, and I fell in love with both again. (Apparently there’s a TV show???? I’m not watching it though. I feel like they’ve dumbed it down, and besides, they haven’t brought Tadashi back yet. XD #HeIsAlive)
The Silver Eye. It was my six-month anniversary of discovering it, so I plunged into a complete reread! And I love it SO MUCH. Guys, seriously, if you haven’t read it, you NEED TO. The artwork is gorgeous and the storyline is phenomenal. (And Apen is amazing, of course.)
The Illuminae Files. I think I read Illuminae last month (?), but I read the last two this month and I really like this series! If it didn’t have so much content, I would love it even more, but I do my best to skim some of the *cough* suggestive parts. I pretty much kept reading because in book 2 we met Nik and Ella and THEY ARE THE LITERAL BEST.
The Magisterium. Another reread of the series, since I never finished the last two books. (There’s some content that I’m not very comfortable with.) The first three are great! The last two . . . well, I haven’t read the fifth yet, but the fourth is very uncomfortable for me.
Marvel. I WATCHED ENDGAME YESTERDAY. (So if I don’t respond to your comments, sorry, I’m sleeping since I got to bed super late. XD) But I’ve watched other Marvel movies this month, like Guardians of the Galaxy and the Winter Soldier. I would go on, but as I’m posting about Marvel relatively soon, I’ll stop talking. ;)
Wicked. Faith raved about this musical so much, I decided to listen to it. #noregrets. Do I agree with all the messages? No. Do I particularly like all the characters? No.
But do I think the music is extremely catchy and fun and relatable for the most part? HECK YES I DO.
If anyone has musical recs, tell me in the comments! I’m always looking for more musicals to jam to. ;)
So, Camp NaNoWriMo is in its final throes. I set a goal for 1,500 minutes.
And to be honest, I really don’t think I can hit that goal. As mentioned, Easter and school got really crazy, and my time has to be spent on more important things right now.
But I’ve still made great progress on my WIPs! I finished the first draft of the Silver Sword (still excited about that, but to be honest, I’m not as excited as I thought I would be). And I made good progress on edits for Inhumans #1 and rough drafting #2. (I’m pitching the Inhumans at RM, and I STILL haven’t come up with a name. *terror*)
This month I participated in the Shared WIP Tag: Goals edition! So here are Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, and Part 4!
Meanwhile, around the blogosphere. . . .
(Some of these links might lead to the comment sections of the post. Sorry about that. XD)
Rosalie did a fabulous post about why she’s still writing that was just awesome.
Kathryn posted some amazing things this month, but two of my particular favorite were this short story and this poem.
Emily showed us all her bullet journal and I AM IN LOVE OKAY.
Melody wrote about pantsing and used BIG HERO 6 GIFS. This post was perfect timing and I still smile thinking about that.
And in honor of Endgame, Faith wrote a GORGEOUS post about Tony Stark. Even though I’m unapologetically #TeamCap, I really loved it!
————————————————————————————————
Well, guys, May is upon us! I’m ready for the school year to be over - are you?
Next week a Marvel Party post will be going up. So brace yourselves, because I’m drafting it now and it’s SO LONG. XD
Have a great May, guys!
-Nicole <3
NO SPOILERS FOR ENDGAME IN THE COMMENTS, PLEASE. But who’s seen it? How was your April? Anyone else big into Big Hero 6?? Let’s talk!

Yay, another Big Hero 6 fan! :) And oof, yeah, I agree. Today our weather is in the forties and I HATE THIS. XD
Deletecan't wait for your Marvel post next week! <3 <3 and i love Big Hero 6! i tried listening to Wicked awhile ago, but i need to listen to it all the way thru. ;)
ReplyDeletei hope you have a lovely May! <3 <3
Thanks, Allison! and YAY, ANOTHER FAN OF BH6!
DeleteHaha, yeah, it took me a while to get into Wicked, honestly, but once I was in, there was NO STOPPING IT. XD
Thanks, and you too! <3 <3
I CAN'T WAIT TO SEE ENDGAME.
ReplyDeleteI'm sorrrrry about those papers. :/ You can do it!! :D
ACK YES I HOPE YOU LOVE IT.
DeleteHehe, oh, well, soon they’ll be over and done with. ;) Thanks! :)
Big Hero 6 is one of the best movies out there. My sister and I spent the car ride to church debating which of Fred's lines is the best. (We agreed on "Imagine eating a sandwich, but everyone just thinks you're CRAZY.")
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing my post! <3
And Wicked. I agree that the messages are mixed, but oh well. I love Elphaba too much. xD Which of the characters don't you like? Just curious ;)
THANK YOU, SOMEONE ELSE WHO AGREES. And that’s an awesome line, although I’m partial to, "Hello, my name's Fred, and it has been thirty days since my last HOLY MOTHER OF MEGAZON!” XD
DeleteHey, no problem! It was an awesome post!
Haha, same, Elphaba is the best. (I really don’t like the Wizard. I never liked him in the Wizard of Oz either, though, so I guess I just don’t like that type of character....)
Hey, that's okay! I think most people don't like the Wizard. Although I do love some of the lyrics in Wonderful...they're so delightfully salty xD
DeleteHaha, yeah, some of those lines are GREAT. XD
DeleteI love Big Hero Six! It's been quite a while since I've seen it though.
ReplyDeleteGood luck on your research papers! Those are the worst. 😭
Hope you have a fantastic May!
It’s so awesome, isn’t it? Hopefully you can see it soon!
DeleteThanks, Kara! (I AGREE - they’re just awful. XD)
You too!
Congrats on finishing your first draft!! That's an immense achievement, and you should be proud. :D AND YES ILLUMINAE IS AMAZING. (Apart from the content). I love the characters so much gah. Have you finished the whole trilogy?
ReplyDeleteThank you so much, Melissa! And AMEN ILLUMINAE IS GREAT. (But yeah, if there’d been less content I would’ve like it more....) Yes, I have! I think there’s less and less content with each book.....and Obsidio (the third) is the best in the series! :)
DeleteI love Big Hero 6! And yes Tadashi I want him to be alive. They need a movie 2. I have not seen Endgames... maybe someday. I have so many movies to catch up on. :)
ReplyDeleteastorydetective.blogspot.com
Amen - Tadashi is definitely alive. They really do need a second movie, though . . . I feel like the TV show won’t give it justice. And haha, hopefully someday! (Just be careful of being spoiled.) ;)
DeleteI STILL HAVEN'T WATCHED ENDGAME YET AND I AM DYINNGGGGG.
ReplyDeleteAlso, why is chocolate so hard to ration?
ACK OH MY GOODNESS I HOPE YOU CAN WATCH IT SOON, IT’S SOOO GOOD.
Delete*shakes head* I’m not sure. One minute it’s there, and the next . . . *looks up guiltily with dark chocolate stains around mouth*
Feel you on the allergies *reaches for another tissue*. The pollen has been super bad this year....
ReplyDeleteEven if you don't make your goal, I'm so glad you made progress!
Ugh, I guess it’s not just where I live then! I hope they get better for both of us soon!
DeleteThanks, Catherine! I’m definitely farther along than I would have been if I hadn’t done Camp, so I’m grateful for that. :)
OMWORD NICOLE BIG HERO SIX IS MY LIFEEEE <3333 tis one of my favorite fandoms out there :D I watched again a few weeks ago as well and remembered how much I loved it. First or second favorite Disney/Pixar movie. LITERALLY ALL THE CHARACTERS ARE PERFECT *cough* tadashi
ReplyDeleteLooks like you had a full but fun month! Good luck with all those research papers x-x
ACK YAY ANOTHER FAN. Honestly, true - it’s a lot better than most Disney or Pixar movies out there. *cough* Tadashi is the best and he is totally alive. *cough*
DeleteThanks, Isabel! Have a great May!
I lovvee Big Hero 6! The dialogue, the music, the science-y aspect...basically everything about it. XD
ReplyDelete"Welcome to mi casa! That's french for front door." "It's really...not." Fred is my spirit animal...human...mascot.
Good luck on all the school craziness! This time of year is always super busy and stressful, but the end is nigh--we shall be victorious!
Thanks for the shoutout! :D
I agree - everything about it is just amazing.
DeleteThat quote, though. XD So, I have to ask, are you “School mascot by day, and by night . . . I am also a school mascot.” ;)
Thanks, Kathryn! WE CAN DO THIS!!!
Hey, no problem! Your posts were really interesting this month!
So, we started the month out as #teammultipleprojects and we end the month as #teamwontfinishcampgoal Love it! Honestly, though, I did a really good job getting my work done. Just didn't reach my time goal, which isn't really the important thing.
ReplyDeleteUgh! I'm so excited to see Endgame, but I'm so nervous at the same time. I've been avoiding just about everything Marvel so I don't accidentally run across spoilers.
I hope your May is a-"may"-zing (sorry, couldn't help myself)!
That . . . is a really good way of putting it, yes. XD #teamwontfinishcampgoal for life! *high-fives* Hey, but at least you got work done! Good job!
DeleteHaha, yeah, you DO NOT want to be spoiled for this one, trust me. When are you going to see it?
*facepalm* I hope yours is as well!
I haven't seen Endgame yet but I want to so bad!! I'm hoping my mom and I can get good seats on Wednesday night to see it :)
ReplyDeletewww.melodypersonette.blogspot.com
Oh, man, I hope you can, and I really hope you like it! :)
DeleteCan't believe it too me this long to figure out that you had a blog. XD
ReplyDeleteEndgame was amazing!
XD Well, I never link to my blog in comments, so that’s partially my fault. ;)
DeleteI agree! It really was the perfect ending!
Aw, you're so sweet! I'm so glad you liked my bullet journal post.
ReplyDeleteBig Hero 6 was one of my favorites of the more recent Disney movies! I mean, Disney + literal superheroes?? YES! (Also, I was stunned when I found out that Baymax is an actual Marvel character...) I need to watch it again...
Aaand I just feel like I should point out that at the end of your post you asked everybody how their May was. ;D
theonesthatreallymatter.blogspot.com
Thanks! It truly was a great post.
DeleteI know - it was a perfect combination! (Wait, seriously, he is? I knew there was a comic, but I guess I didn’t really think about Baymax being in it . . . huh. XD)
OH SHOOT. YOU HAVE DISCOVERED MY SECRET TIME-TRAVELING ABILITY.
XD
But seriously, *facepalm* Thank you so much for pointing that out! I am off to fix that . . .
Welcome to the comment section! I love hearing what you guys think and seeing you guys talk. Just remember to keep it clean, and as always, check back for my replies! <3
