August 2019 Happenings // I Am Exhausted

August 25, 2019

Happy Sunday!

You know, some months are like Avengers: Endgame. There’s way too much going on at the same time, and you can barely keep up. And other months are like Thor: Ragnarok, where there’s pretty much nothing happening, but it’s (kind of) fun anyways.

This month has been like Ragnarok for me. Meeting friends, getting out of my comfort zone, and lots and lots of electrocutions.

What to say, what to say?

I feel like giving moments of August in bullet-point form because honestly, my memories of this month are really disjointed and these are the only coherent things I can come up with.

- losing my voice for, like, two weeks

- trying out for the school musical and actually walking away semi-satisfied with my performance (???)

- starting school

- my Ravenclaw locker magnet and my friends' corresponding magnets

- seeing my friends switch said Hogwarts house locker magnets around (I’m a Hufflepuff now!)

- PHYSICAL EXERCISE IS PAIN

- SO MUCH PAIN

- MY LIMBS ARE STILL DYING

- bridal shower

- starting the Blades of Acktar series!

- WHY DOES EXERCISE HURT SO MUCH

- WHY WAS STRENGTH TRAINING THE ONLY CLASS OPTION AVAILABLE

Jason Bourne. I’ve been meaning to watch these movies for forever, but I never really had a good chance. So, of course, I did the logical thing and watched the trilogy in four days. XD

While it’s definitely not a perfect series (there are several unresolved threads, for one) I think it’s a really intriguing use of the amnesia trope and a really interesting movie series overall!

The Blades of Acktar. I bought the entire series at RM, but only just started reading them now! I love the characters (I will go DOWN with the Leith x Renna ship) and the themes of forgiveness are woven into the storyline really well. I'm currently trying to work up the courage to read book 3, because book 2 ABSOLUTELY BROKE ME.

Artemis Fowl. If you haven’t read this series yet, WHAT ARE YOU DOING????? It’s a completely underrated series about a genius teenage criminal mastermind who discovers fairies. Also, book seven is pure comedy GOLD and has ruined my life. #onetwothreefourfive #wearthesuitandstayalive

seriously, number poetry? that’s ridiculous.

Inception. To be fair, I haven’t actually seen this movie - I’ve only listened to the soundtrack. But I’ve been completely obsessed with "Time" for weeks now. (I think I prefer the TwoSetViolin cover - check it out! It’s aMaZiNg!)

You know . . .

Some people become writing MACHINES after writers' conferences.

I became a procrastination MACHINE.

Lately I’ve been doing better, probably because school has started and I get really panicky if I don’t write during school for some reason. *shrugs* But I had plans of finishing The Inhumans #1 draft 2 by the end of August, and unless I do some Serious Writing, that is not going to happen.

That’s okay, though! I still have two months before NaNo, so I might be able to pull my Grand Writing Plan off. XD (and in case you're wondering, yes, my Grand Writing Plan is wayyyy more than I can handle, but that doesn't mean I'm not going to try it anyways)

This month has been one of my favorite blogging months. Here are the posts I did:

Realm Makers 2019 // the play-by-play no one asked for

My Bullet Journal Journey // aka bring on the cringe

It's So Classic! Tag

Meanwhile, around the blogosphere . . .

Chloë wrote a very moving post titled Dear World that you definitely should check out.

Along those same lines, Melissa wrote another Dear Writer post that any writer should read. It’s probably one of my favorite posts of hers.

And Faith wrote a roast of all the bestselling YA novels that you will read and then proceed to die of laughter. ;)

Not to mention all the Realm Makers posts that have popped up during August! There have been so many it would take forever to list them all here, but some of my favorites were Christine's and Skye's posts!

----------------

This September, I’m doing something different and following a theme for this month's blog posts!

And the theme is TV Shows.

For each different Sunday of September, I’ll be covering a different (favorite) TV show, along with something from that show that can benefit our writing. I’m hoping it’ll be fun and interesting and keep me alive through this month. I'm pumped for this, guys!

(Also, for those of you still wondering about that Instagram, don't worry, I'm hoping that it'll pop up soon......)

Until next time, have a great day, and I'll talk to you guys in the comments!

-Nicole <3

How was your August? Have any of you listened to the musical Matilda? (#randomquestion.) Have you seen Jason Bourne? Let's talk!

  2. I loved your description of certain months. That's so true! XD My August has been a bit of a whirlwind itself, but a productive one, so I guess that's good!

I NEED to read the Blades of Acktar books. I have the first one, I just haven't read it yet...shamefully. ONE DAY. And Artemis Fowl! Definitely need to read the rest of those. I read the first one like a gazillion years ago but never finished the series. Gotta do that! And isn't there a movie of it releasing eventually? That might be fun!

Cheering you on with your writing Grand Plan!!! *waves pompoms* YOU GOT THIS, GIRL! NaNo isn't upon us quite yet. There is definitely still time!

Oh my goodness, I'm so honored to have my RM post linked. EEP. THANK YOU!!! So glad you enjoyed it!

Okay a TV shows theme for September sounds SO SO FUN. I LOVE THIS IDEA!!! AAAHHHHH. I CAN'T WAIT! :D

    1. Aw, thank you, Christine! I’m glad to hear your August went well! <3 (Hopefully September slows down for you a little bit....)

YES, YOU MUST. The first book was good, but the second and third are amazing! And oh, man, the Artemis Fowl books get better and better as you keep going. :) (I think so? Disney has delayed the release date . . . but I’m not too optimistic, seeing as most book-to-movie adaptations aren’t very good nowadays. XD)

THANK YOU! I hope so. I’m praying I find enough time this week to write . . . XD

You’re welcome! It was so thorough and beautiful and IT WAS PERFECT. <3

      AAAAHH, I'M SO GLAD YOU'RE EXCITED!! :)

  3. Sounds like you had a busy month! Your blog post reminds of a meme that goes something like, “telling yourself ‘you just have to get through this week then things will slow down’ until you die” XD

I also really loved how you highlighted other bloggers content. Such a great way to connect the writing community 💕

    1. Definitely! XD that is the most accurate depiction of my life, honestly. ;) Last week was insane, this week is going to be insane . . . WILL IT NEVER END??

Aw, thanks, Evan! (I feel like I shouldn’t talk about myself ALL the time - there are other people in this world too. XD)

  4. Hufflepuff!! ;)

I've heard so much about the Artimis Fowl series, but have never tried it! I'm going to look for them at the library.

    1. . . . yep! ;)

YES, READ THEM! (I will say, though, I’m not a big fan of book 1. Book two is where I really start to enjoy the series. XD)

  5. 'Procrastination machine' describes my entire life I think

You watch Twoset Violin? I do too! I have a few musicians in my family, so even though I don't play music anymore, I still find the videos really relatable.

Yes, I do! At the moment I’m lowkey obsessed with that channel. Ooo, that’s really interesting! (reference not intended)

  6. Okay, but I didn't really LIKE Artemis Fowl??? I only read the first book, though. Should I keep going? Maybe it gets better? I don't know, I just felt like it wasn't for me.

I FEEL YOUR PAIN ABOUT EXERCISE. LITERALLY. I've been trying so hard to get in better shape lately and it's SO MUCH TORTURE. If only reading books burned calories. xD

Ooh, a TV-themed month sounds really cool. :D I'm just going to go out on a limb and guess that maybe you'll be talking about the Flash one week? ;D

Wait wait wait though, what Instagram thing? Because someone keeps viewing my IG stories and girl, I know that's you. xD xD

    1. Honestly, I don’t much like the first book, either - Artemis is such a jerk I can barely stand to read about him. XD If that’s why you didn’t like the first, I would recommend at least trying the second, and if you don’t like it, then leave it be. XD

OOF, SO TRUE. Can we make reading books a form of exercise please and thank you? Because then I would DOMINATE MY GRADE. XD

      ;) ;) *cough* maaaaaybe? #I'mtotallynotpredictable #definitelynot

*cough* *cough* *hacking fit* no idea what you’re talking about. XD (Okay, in all seriousness, my mom wanted me to start a private, personal IG first, just to see how it goes. I’m hoping this month she'll let me get the Bookstagram account. :) )

    2. I might try the next book eventually just to see!

Lol I could be so fit xD

xD No, I understand! And that would be awesome if you got a Bookstagram! If you do I'm totally there. :D

  8. Ragnarok V Endgame is such a brilliant way to describe how months pass and I love it so much. Also JASON BOURNE. (Spy flicks are my weakness, lol) Not crazy about it, but its good.(I like the spin off movie with Jeremy Renner!)

I've been trying to read Dare for so long and I just haven't been able to get around to it. Granted, I still have to buy it...

GRAND WRITING PLAN SOUNDS EPIC AND I WISH YOU THE BEST OF LUCK IN YOUR (evil?) PLANS!

    1. Aw, thank you! YES, JASON BOURNE. (Honestly, same. XD) Ooo, I haven’t seen the spinoff - I’ll have to check it out!

If you get the opportunity, you neeeeeeed to read it! I think you’d enjoy it. :)

THANK YOU SO MUCH, MK! (they may or may not be evil?? they're evil for me, that’s for sure XD)

  12. That Endgame analogy is BRILLIANT

I've actually been not writing a lot as well? Mostly because August is so incredibly busy (with a week-long church conference and other things) so I told myself I could take writing off and just focus on reading and doing some blogging.

But September...I'll be back to editing. Kinda looking forward to it, kinda not.

Oh, wow, a week-long church conference! That sounds really interesting . . . But yeah, August seems to be crazy for a lot of people. *shrugs* Oh well. Breaks can be good! (unless you’re me and take breaks for weeks, write one day, and then take another weeks-long break XD)

  13. Oof--I hope PE gets better for you! I don't have my gym class until the second semester, and I'm trying REALLY hard not to think about it. 😂

And I have the first Artemis Fowl book, but I haven't read it yet. I'll have to get to it soon!

    1. I’m hoping so! I haven’t been very sore the past few days, so I’m trying to believe that everything is downhill from here. XD Good luck with your PE class next semester! You got this!

If you get a chance, you should TOTALLY read it - while the first book isn’t my favorite, the rest of the series is phenomenal!
