A Few of My Ruined Words
March 22, 2020Happy Sunday!
Today’s post is going to be super short, because SOMEONE has a vlog to edit. *mumbles something about procrastination*
As an everyday fangirl, I frequently find that “normal” words that come up in conversation can have double meanings for me. However, most people don’t understand exactly why I want to slug the wall when I hear them talking about legacies, or why mentioning honor will make me smirk.
I call these words with double meanings my “ruined words” because the chances of me seeing them normally again are ruined. XD And today, we’re going through a few of them, dictionary-style. So this is basically my own personal dictionary. You’re welcome. ;)
Three Thousand
noun1. the words of a young child to her now-deceased father, used to show her love
2. more than one ton
3. commonly used after the words “I love you”
Four
noun: death; similar to the Chinese word for death
Five
noun1. the perfect and safest number
2. with it, you can wear the suit and stay alive
Honor
noun1. a quality that can be “lost” by disrespecting your father, and “found” by listening to your crazy uncle and helping the person you’ve been trying to capture
2. a catchphrase of an angsty boy with a scar over his left eye
Newspaper
noun: not sold by headlines, but by newsies
(see papes)
Brooklyn
noun1. home of both a shield-wielding capsicle and a scheming paperboy
2. is here
Teal
adjective: the color of a particularly attractive, but hot-headed, elf’s eyes.
Quirk
noun1. a power 80% of the population has
2. it’s yours! Yours, not his!
Ring
noun1. a gold band that goes around one’s finger and, when thrown into a fire, produces words written in some form of Elvish
2. my precious
3. One Ring to rule them all, One Ring to find them, One Ring to bring them all and in the darkness bind them
Potatoes
noun: boil ‘em, mash ‘em, stick ‘em in a stew
Rum
noun: why is it always gone?
Legacy
noun1. planting seeds in a garden you never get to see
2. a phrase commonly used to describe your evil parents’ schemes for you
Well, I think that’s all for now. XD If you have any “ruined words” of your own, comment them down below - I’d love to hear them!
And hopefully, I’ll see you Wednesday, on my blogoversary! (If this stupid video will get edited - it’s SO LONG, guys . . .)
-Nicole <3

NICOLE I LOVE THIS SO MUCH. IT'S SO RELATABLE. Thanks for making me want to cry from the get-go with "three thousand", though. *whimpers*
ReplyDeleteI just started laughing when I saw the word "potatoes". XD
Oh, there are SO many words that have been ruined for me. "Focus", because of Agent Carter. "Balance", because of stupid Thanos. And, well, a million others that I can't think of right now. But the struggle is real. xD

AGH THANK YOU. Honestly I made myself want to cry, so . . . whoops. *hugs*
DeleteXD XD it’s such a great word, though.
DON’T EVEN GET ME STARTED ON BALANCE. *rages* XD XD
Lol. I loved the rum one with the pirates of the Caribbean.
ReplyDeleteHaha, thanks!
DeleteOh my word, I love this post sooooooooo much! This is GOLD. And I relate SO hard! Fandoms have ruined me of, like, everything. I can barely do or hear or see ANYTHING without it reminding my of a fandom. I'm a mess. XD
ReplyDeleteI shamefully didn't get all of these references, but I DEFINITELY related to a lot of them. Like three thousand (*SOBS FOR ETERNITY*) and "HONORRRRR!" Ahem. And OF COURSE PO-TAY-TOES. Classic.
This was so great, Nicole! XD
Haha, thank you! And SO TRUE - I think all we fangirls are a mess, but it’s fine. XD
Delete*SOBS WITH YOU* But at least you related with honor. ;) XD XD
Thank you, Christine! ;)
Many of these are ruined words for me, too! It's funny because any time my family eats potatoes my sister, mom, and I all yell, "PO-TAY-TOES!" where everyone else is very confused. XD
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness, that’s hysterical!! XD I’m glad you enjoyed this!
Delete"*mumbles something about procrastination*" < this is so relatable XD *mumbles with you*, but i cannot wait to see your vlog, i know it's going to be amazing!!
ReplyDeletethis post idea was adorable!! i.... did not get a lot of the references, but the pictures you included were so beautiful and now i have to read all the books you displayed. ;) loved reading this! i hope you're doing well <333
XD XD haha, thanks?? ;) I’ll try to get it done ASAP! (Though maybe don’t get your hopes up with thinking it’ll be amazing . . . XD)
DeleteThank you! Okay, but YES, READ THEM ALLLLL ;). I’m doing okay! Just getting over a sickness -_- . . . how are you doing? <3 <3
Oh my word I love the idea for this post xD It's brilliant!
ReplyDeleteI don't know if I have any...but "well, well, well" is a phrase I use very, very often and cackle every time MWAHAHA
Haha, thank you. XD
Delete*shrugs* that’s close enough honestly, and we can’t forget “death” can we???? ;) ;) #sorrynotsorry
Love when fandoms slowly take over your life. XD
ReplyDeleteI know, right??? And the worst part is, is it a problem or a blessing?? XD
DeleteThis is a brilliant post idea, Nicole! XD Love it. I can totally relate to having "ruined words" and my family can't say "potatoes" without quoting LOTR. :P
ReplyDeleteThank you, Kathryn!! Haha, yessss, potatoes will go down in history as a LOTR word. :D
DeleteAs soon as i saw 3000, i was like.."well i might cry before this is over" jk jk jk *voice cracks* i'm fine. A lot of these are ruined for me as well :)
ReplyDeleteXD honestly, same. . . . *wipes away tear* Haha, I’m glad I’m not the only one. XD
DeleteHAHAHA THIS IS SO SO 100% RELATABLE AND I LOVEEE IT
ReplyDeletealso newsies is literally everything <3 ;-; <3
lollll teal
THANK YOU ISABEL
DeleteIt really is *nods*
okay but THAT COLOR IS FOREVER RUINED AND NOW I DON’T EVEN KNOW WHAT TO THINK ABOUT IT
"Is here" being the Brooklyn entry has set me cackling. As has "why is it always gone?" for rum. Ha.
ReplyDeleteI have ruined words toooo! Honestly, whenever I meet someone whose first thought upon hearing "ring" isn't "my precious," I have to wonder, like, are they human? And let's see, a few of mine:
Ponies
1. all needed for the war
Fascinating
1. terrifying, ominous, or otherwise likely to cause panic on the bridge and death of at least one redshirt
2. a word that may be used to describe anything related to that foreign and peculiar object known as an Emotion
Amnesty
1. The reason I can't shoot you right now
2. The reason I canNOT rob that bank
3. No seriously I can't rob the bank
4. YOU ROBBED THE BANK YOURSELF AND NOW YOU'RE BLAMING IT ON ME??? DO YOU UNDERSTAND HOW HARD THIS IS GOING TO BE TO FIX?
....I had better stop bc I honestly feel like I could go on forever. XD Ruined words are way too fun.
Haha, glad to hear it!
DeleteOh my goodness, YES! I completely agree! I wonder what it’s like to not associate rings with LOTR . . . XD
Okay, but seriously, those are AMAZING. XD XD sadly, I don’t understand most of the references, but just reading them is hysterical! :D
"A shield-wielding capsicle" <-- an amazing description of Cap.
ReplyDeleteI love this post! Such a fun idea.
XD XD thank you! I’m glad someone got that reference!
Delete:D
A new way to look at these words. I'm not sure if I have any.
ReplyDeleteastorydetective.blogspot.com
Haha, that’s probably a good thing - it can make conversations Very Interesting. ;)
DeleteOKAY, NICOLE THIS IS GREAT. Marvel, Lord of the Rings, Pirates of the Caribbean, etc. Etc.
ReplyDeleteWow. I have some ruined words, too. Honestly, mostly I just quote things and people are like, "What?" And I'm like, "It's from a show."
Or something like that.
AAAAAH THANK YOU! Haha, I’m so glad you got all those references!
DeleteHehe, that is also a great way of going about things. Quoting fandoms and not having people understand can be just amazing. XD
Three-Thousand...
ReplyDeleteI like this idea for a post quite a bit. It's very unique. My ruined word would be someone saying their leg is broken...
(It's from AoS)
*let the tears begin*
DeleteHaha, niiiiice! :D
Brooklyn (n): is here 🤣🤣🤣
ReplyDeleteXD XD XD and so’s the Bronx, but psh ;)
DeleteThis post is absolutely killer xD
ReplyDeleteHaha, thank you, Savannah! XD
DeleteI... I love you... *deep breath* I love you 3000. *sobs*
ReplyDeleteThat one has definitely been ruined for me too.
This is such a creative idea!! Great post, Nicole!
*bursts into tears*
