Fantasy Favorites Tag // in which I shove memes at you

March 03, 2019

Happy Sunday!

So, technically, last month was Fantasy Month, which, of course, was amazing. HOWEVER . . . I did not discover this tag until this Monday, when Christine @ Musings of an Elf posted her answers to it. And I loved it so much that I stole it respectfully took it. So we're all going to pretend that it’s still February and that this still counts for Fantasy Month.

Also, the Q&A is still accepting questions, so if you want to ask me something random, head on over!

The Rules:

Thank the blogger who tagged you. Christine, thank you for tagging everyone so I could steal it respectfully take it!

Include the graphic somewhere in your post. It's just up there!

Answer the questions. Got it.

Tag a few blogger friends - and let them know they’ve been tagged! The odds that I do this rule are not in my favor.

And now, I present to you . . . the tag! *trumpet fanfare*

What is your favorite fantasy book?

Well, we’re off to a great start here, aren’t we?

This will come as no surprise to anyone, but my favorite fantasy book (really, just my all-time favorite book) is Keeper of the Lost Cities by Shannon Messenger.

*booing ensues*

Yeah, yeah, I know, I didn’t say Lord of the Rings. But, as much as I love LOTR, KOTLC is my happy place. It’s the book I read when I’m having a bad day. *whispers* Read it.

What is your favorite fantasy movie or TV show (or both!)?

All right, then, we're just going to answer both!

Movie: Lord of the Rings: the Return of the King. Hands-down. I honestly don’t watch it often, because I cry every time, but when I do, I just DIE because it’s SO AMAZING.

TV Show: (come on, you all know what’s coming)

AVATAR: THE LAST AIRBENDER. IT IS AMAZING AND INCREDIBLE AND JUST GO WATCH IT. PLEASE. I'M BEGGING YOU.

That is all. Thank you.

Who is your favorite fantasy hero/heroine?

My favorite fantasy hero . . . gosh, there’s so many of them. Some personal favorites include Luke Skywalker, Frodo, Aragorn, and Zuko. (Yes, I could argue that he’s the hero of ATLA. Trust me. I think about this.)

Now, my favorite fantasy heroine is probably Sophie Foster from KOTLC. I find myself relating to her a LOT. Plus, she’s got like sixteen thousand different powers and WHO WOULDN'T WANT THAT.

Who is your favorite fantasy sidekick?

Either Cress from the Lunar Chronicles or Sam from LOTR. I can’t decide. They’re both so awesome!

Who is your favorite fantasy villain (the one you most love to hate?)

Does the Reverse-Flash from the Flash count? Because he's such a good villain - he CREEPS ME OUT. I will refrain from spoilers, though.

But if he doesn’t count, then probably Azula from ATLA. Gosh, she’s just insane and powerful and UGH. I wish I could write a villain like her.

What is your favorite fantasy sub-genre?

Probably realistic fantasy or portal fantasy. Realistic fantasy (that might not be the correct name) is like Percy Jackson - fantasy elements in our world. Portal fantasy - as the name suggests - has a door from our world to a fantasy world, like KOTLC or Doon.

What is your favorite thing about fantasy?

There’s unlimited options! Do you want dragons in your book? Go ahead! Reversed gravity? Sure, why not? There are no rules to fantasy, which is nice, because you can do whatever the heck you want.

What is your favorite fantasy realm?

My mind.

Just kidding maybe. Honestly, probably the Lost Cities or the Shire. The Lost Cities are so fantastical and beautiful, but the Shire is quiet and homey. GAH.

Can I just live in both of them?

What is your favorite fantasy magic system?

I really liked the creativity in Brandon Sanderson's Mistborn series. The idea is that if you ingest certain metals, you get powers and "burn" the metals to activate them.

But in terms of a magic system that I would actually want to use . . . bending from ATLA. (In case you’re wondering, I’m a waterbender. I think.)

Sell me a fantasy book! Have you written a fantasy book? Give me your best pitch for it! Have you read an exceptionally great fantasy book recently? Convince me to make it my next read!

Oh, boy. An exceptionally great fantasy book that I’ve read recently. . . . *scrolls through Goodreads* *literally sees nothing* HAVE I READ AT ALL THIS YEAR??

Well, then, I’m going to rave about a book you’ve never heard me talk about before!

So, there’s a really good book series out there that not everyone has heard of??? It’s called the Septimus Heap series and it’s SO GOOD. Seriously.

It’s middle-grade, but don’t let that stop you. The characters and writing are absolutely hysterical. (For anyone wondering, Simon is my favorite character.) Yes, the plot isn’t entirely original, but there are enough twists and turns, and the world-building is so unique, that it seems entirely fresh.

And I have no one to fangirl over it with me. So READ IT.

(That’s my idea of an impromptu pitch. XD)

TAGGING:

If you like fantasy, STEAL IT! *chants “STEAL IT! STEAL IT!!” over and over* There’s so many people I could tag for this that I’m just going to tag EVERYONE!!!

For easy reference, here are the questions:

What is your favorite fantasy book?
What is your favorite fantasy movie or TV show (or both!)?
Who is your favorite fantasy hero/heroine?
Who is your favorite fantasy side-kick?
Who is your favorite fantasy villain? (the one you most love to hate?)
What is your favorite fantasy sub-genre?
What is your favorite thing about fantasy?
What is your favorite fantasy realm?
What is your favorite fantasy magic system?
Sell me a fantasy book! Have you written a fantasy book? Give me your best pitch for it! Have you read an exceptionally great fantasy book recently? Convince me to make it my next read!

I hope you have a great week, and stay creative!

  1. I love the Septimus Heap series!! I read all of the books when I was in middle school and loved them. I even named my pet goldfish Septimus. (Yes, Kara is a total dork. :P) I really should do a reread of them sometime soon!

This tag seems super fun--perhaps I'll have to do it. :)

And oh man, Return of the King is just amazing. And heartbreaking. And beautiful. UGH. I just can't deal with the amazingness of it.

I've never seen Avatar: The Last Airbender and I don't really know anything about it, but I kind of want to try it? I've seen several bloggers say good things about it, so maybe I'll give it a try in the future.

They've been hands-down my all-time favorite movie series for a good couple of years now. xD My teacher was telling the class about Jesus' return and he labeled it as "The King Returns", and I whispered "you mean The Return of the King, right?".
