June 2020 Happenings

June 28, 2020

Happy Sunday!

So, apparently, June happened, and no one informed me. A few weeks ago, I looked at the calendar and realized it was the middle of June. I had thought that it was, like, June 4th or something. XD

But anyways, summer is halfway over, and with it, half the year. Kind of a depressing thought, so let’s move on from that and discuss some OTHER things!

The best thing about this month by far was that SCHOOL IS OVER. yes I am still excited about that. It’s such a relief to not worry about homework for an entire month. :D

And for the first time in months, I actually interacted with people in-person!! I met with some friends and, among other things, played some Sorry with them. (And my *cough* more competitive friends may have thrown around some threats, but it’s fine.) I also got to see some family members who I don’t see often, which was nice.

One of my favorite parts of the month was having Chick-fil-a twice in a week. That was nice. ;) we’re not going to discuss the amount of food from one Japanese restaurant I had in the same span of time

I’ve also been getting into writing letters! I’m not one of those “artsy pen-pal” people (though I wish I was XD), but it’s been fun just writing to friends who don’t live close to me. (The only problem was that I soon ran out of cool stationery and had to buy some more.)

And Masses started back up at our parish! I’m so glad we can go celebrate Mass at a physical church, instead of in a living room, watching a YouTube video without any music. :(

Star Wars. My family and I finished our rewatch of the original trilogy! It was such a burst of nostalgia to hear John Williams’ soundtracks and watch these characters again. Luke’s character arc in particular struck me as excellent (and I spent a full thirty minutes analyzing it after Return of the Jedi XD).

Also, excuse me for a rant here, but there is NO HECKING WAY the Emperor survived that fall. No. Way. He literally fell down a long shaft, into some sort of reactor, which then was exploded by Lando. Look, I can suspend my disbelief for Bucky’s resurrection in Captain America, but not for this one. *sigh*

Anyways.

I have a theory that the Emperor is just winging everything and just says this to be intimidating XD

I Love You So Mochi. This was, hands-down, one of the cutest contemporaries I’ve ever read. I really loved the Japanese setting, and the romance was adorable! Although there were a few things I wish weren’t included, I still fangirl whenever I think about this story, and I wish there was a sequel.

Fullmetal Alchemist. After finishing Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood last month, it was only logical for me to watch the original Fullmetal Alchemist TV show. It’s definitely different from Brotherhood, and I’m not sure if that’s a good or bad thing yet. But I’m really appreciating the character arc of the main character, Ed. I kinda want to write a post about it, honestly.

*wants to hug him through the screen*

Attack on Titan’s first opening song. I haven’t TECHNICALLY watched Attack on Titan yet, but I HAVE listened to Guren No Yumiya at least ten times. It’s SO EPIC, guys. (And you can bet that as soon as I finish FMA I will be watching this show. I am PUMPED.)

I would mention TwoSetViolin’s lofi being added on Spotify after a month of waiting, but I think you guys are sick of me mentioning them

Writing, you ask?

It’s going FANTASTICALLY.

I can’t say much more than that, except for that Project Chaos is going along just fine! I mean, I’ve already killed off one innocent cinnamon roll chara- I mean, *cough* all my characters are staying safe and healthy.

Also, I wrote 6000 words in one day. Don’t ask me how, because I have no clue.

Here are the posts I did this month, in case you missed them:

I took a commenting semi-hiatus due to Life Things, which is why I’ve been so late, both commenting on blogs and replying on this one. And I'm not quite caught up yet, so bear with me. I'm getting there, I promise.

Meanwhile, the blogosphere has been EXPLODING. This has been such a hectic month, but I’ll do my best to cover the highlights.

Bethany @ Scribbled Fiction gave some tips on avoiding procrastination which I desperately need. :D

Emily @ The Ones that Really Matter discussed finding peace in this crazy world. Everyone needs to read this post. <3 <3 <3

Ribbon Ash talked about some “writer’s obsessions” she has, which was fascinating! (Now I want to write a post about my own obsessions. XD)

Hanne @ Losing the Busyness started a YouTube channel! So far, she’s posted super-aesthetic journaling and pen-palling videos, and if you’re into that, I highly recommend checking it out!

Megan @ The Pen and the Cross posted about the Catholic liturgy, and if you’re going to write Catholic characters or just want to know more about the faith, I suggest you head over there! (She’s also organizing a Catholic Liturgy Week with Samantha, which is going to be EPIC.)

And let’s not even mention the fact that some more bloggers are publishing this year!!! Lia’s poetry collection and Sarah and Julian’s pirate novel are just a few.

————————————————————————

Things seem to be looking up for 2020, with all those releases. July is also going to bring some awesome things, like the Hamilfilm on Disney+! *shrieks forever*

Everything is changing again, hopefully for the better. But don’t forget to stop and take a deep breath. Because if July goes by as quickly as June, you might miss it if you blink. ;)

How was your June???? Are you excited for the Hamilfilm? What are your thoughts on the original Star Wars trilogy? Let’s talk!

  1. Hahaha so whenever I play Sorry with my siblings, we usually end up designating our gamepieces as different characters... we've had a LOTR edition with Teams Elf, Hobbit, Dwarf, and Man, a Marvel edition with Team Cap, Iron Man, Hulk, and Thor... and so on and so forth. It makes it 1000x more fun. xD

YES LUKE IS AMAZING AND I AM STILL ANGRY ABOUT THIIIINGS. *throws The Last Jedi at the wall* #Luke4Life I still need to watch Rise of Skywalker, though...

I'm so glad writing is going so well for you!! Even if you are already killing characters. xD

Ahh I still haven't checked out Hanne's YouTube!! I seriously need to, though, because I get so excited when people start YT channels. (And thanks for sharing my post! <3)

    I hope you have a lovely July! <3 <3

    1. Oh my goodness, I love that idea SO MUCH. Next time I play Sorry, I am definitely doing that. :D

LUKE IS #BESTCHARACTER. *glares angrily at TLJ* yeah, that was the biggest issue I had with that movie. #Luke4Life Rise of Skywalker . . . was better than TLJ? I have issues in areas of it, but it was much more enjoyable. (Also you must tell me when you watch it because I want to know allllll the thoughts. ;) )

      Hehe, yeah . . . whoops XD

YOU TOTALLY SHOULD, it’s so aesthetic and pretty and inspiring! Haha, same, people starting YT channels is always a highlight. (Speaking of which . . . is a new video coming? ;) )
(Aw, no problem! It really helped me get through a rough work week....)

Thank you, and I hope you have a lovely July too! <3 <3

  2. Hey!
Yep, my school is over too and that's the best thing about June, haha! Online learning is definitely something exhausting... Great you've met some people in-person recently! Since March I stayed at home and didn't see anyone but this month I've finally met some of my friends and that was amazing <3 Apart from that I'm enjoying sunny, hot weather in my country and finally I've found enough time to come back to reading books and blogging!
I wish you a beautiful July full of good, exciting things :)

Haha, yes, online learning is so tiring . . . But I’m glad you’ve met with your friends again!! And it sounds like the rest of your month was great!

Aw, thank you, and I wish the same for you! :D

I'm so glad you got to get with some friends and family and are enjoying your break! Looks like you've been consuming all sorts of goodness! :D

I hope your July proves to be even BETTER. <3

  4. NICOLE, STAHP! Summer is NOT halfway over--technically it just started on the 21st. You just about gave me heart attack. 😊
Real letter-writing is so much fun! I did a lot of it at the very beginning of quarantine (I had a Lenten resolution to write one per day), but I've fallen off a little...partially because I'm almost out of stationery. XD
My mom only told my siblings and I about the Hamilfilm 3 days ago (we don't have Disney+ yet, so we had no idea), which resulted in much freaking out and screaming! We're all SUPER excited to watch it!
The original Star Wars trilogy is AMAZING. Of the new ones, I've only watched 7 and the second half of 8 (don't ask), but they're definitely not as good. And what is with all the spin offs?!

    1. Oof, low-key forgot about the official beginning of summer. XD I’m glad that it’s only just starting now, though!
Oh, no, not a lack of stationery! :( But yes, real letter-writing is incredibly fun! :D
Well, welcome to the excitement club!!!!! Haha, I don’t have Disney+ either yet, but here we go, free week subscription!!!!
Yeah, the new ones definitely aren’t as good. Honestly, I’d just stick with the original trilogy. XD And I think Disney’s trying to milk this franchise for all it’s worth, hence the spin-offs. -_- I mean, some of them are good . . .?

I AGREE COMPETELY. Why can’t time slow down during summer and speed up during school??
Haha, if you ever get time, you should try it out! But man, I probably shouldn’t make as much time for it as I do . . . XD

    2. I'm glad! I am thinking of doing a part 2 when I get more obsessions! (I have some in mind already.)

  10. June just disappeared on me. I blinked and missed it.

You know what, I can totally get behind your theory of Palpatine. It's basically the only thing that makes sense. And also, how on earth did he survive that fall? *facedesk*

Wow!! 6000 in one day?! That's amazing!!!! I'm glad writing is going well for you. That's super cool.

Thanks for the shoutout! I'm so excited about all the releases happening. *screams my head off because I'm so proud of everyone!!* I'm excited for Lia's book. I can't decide if I want the paperback or the ebook because I hear both have really cool features and I kinda want both.

    1. Oh, goodness, same here. *sigh*

I don’t know!!! It doesn’t make sense, and it kind of makes me sad that RoS had to bring him back just to have a “good” villain. *facepalm*

Thank you!!! (Haha, that was one of my better days - most days I’ve just been writing a sentence, but oh well XD)

Aw, you’re welcome - and I JUST SAW THE COVER AND MY MIND IS BLOWN FOR YOU.
I don’t know either!! I might lean towards paperback, but it’s so hard to pick!

  12. Same!! I looked at my calendar and was like oh my gosh... its June 29th! What happened to June? To the whole year??

I like the original trilogy, but I actually grew up watching more of the prequels than I did of the originals sooo I'm that person who loves Padme and Anakin a little more than Luke and Leia *hides*

I'm so glad writing is going so well for you! I love that your project is literally named Project Chaos. That's just the best haha! I hope you have a great July!

  13. First, 6000 words in a day??? EPIC!!!

The first time I watched Rise of Skywalker I was thinking the whole time, "This is IMPOSSIBLE. Palpatine didn't survive!!" But when I saw it again a few weeks later I just accepted it and loved it. XD Luke is one of my favorite characters of all time and I still love The Last Jedi. ;) One of these days I'll write a post explaining the million reasons why...

    Have a good July, Nicole!!!
